The Disney Look Part 1: When You Get There

We are often told that we only have one chance to make a first impression. When you arrive to your DCP Check-In, it is important to make sure you are presentable and meeting Disney Look guidelines.

Do they expect you to go through all of the lines in professional dress? No. But, they do expect you to already meet some basic guidelines. A lot of interns are sent back to the airport for not following basic Disney Look guidelines, please make sure you are not one of them! Read on after the jump!

When you arrive for your check in, your hair is of one of the primary concerns. It should be in a natural color. If your hair has highlights, be sure that they are no more than two shades lighter or darker than the rest of your hair. Any dyed hair must be maintained, meaning make sure to touch up your roots when needed. Keep in mind, the ombre look is NOT Disney Look.

Not only is color important, but so is the style. A lot of women ask me if pixie cuts are ok and yes, they are! You're just channeling your inner Tink :) But asymmetrical bobs? Those are not in Disney look. Conservative hairstyles are key. They must be neat and easy to maintain, you can't keep taking breaks to fix your do. If your hair is below the shoulders and gets in your face if you bend forward, it should be confined in either a braid, ponytail or neat bun. Men typically keep their hair short since it can't touch their ears or shirt collars. And yes men, you can have facial hair. However,it must already be grown. They must meet the corners of the mouth (unless connecting to a beard) but not over the top lip. If you have a goatee, they must be connected. If you do not have facial hair, you are expected to be clean shaven everyday.

If you have any doubts, look at other Cast Members! They all fit into Disney Guidelines. The key to the Disney Look is conservative and easy to maintain. When you arrive you will have your photo taken for your ID so make sure your hair fits the Disney Look guidelines.

It is also important to make sure your nails are groomed. Make sure they are trimmed so they do not extend past the fingertip. If you are a woman not working in food, you can wear very light non chipped nail polish in conservative colors,go for beige, clear or light pinks, not neon green.

Another important female category is jewelry. You are permitted to ONE matching set of earrings. They must be at the bottom of your ear and cannot exceed the size of a quarter. They can be gold and silver or a color that blends with the costume (don't wear bright orange if your shirt is blue) They can be a clip on, hoop or a dangle. Even Mickey studs are acceptable!

One of the major things is the tattoos. If you do have a tattoo that requires a shirt to cover it, they WILL check to make sure you have it. For example if your tattoo is on the inside of your forearm and you have to get a white under armor or skin tight shirt to wear under your costume, they will ask to see that you have it with you and that you're ready to go. Saying that you're going to the mall after is not going to cut it. You need to arrive ready.

You will be getting you photo taken for your ID. This is from about mid shoulder up. If you are in a tank top, they will make you go through your luggage to find a t-shirt to put on over it, bare shoulders are not permitted. I remember having to take my necklace off so my chain did not interfere with the photo. Since your face is visible, ladies make sure if you are wearing make up that is conservative, make up should be natural looking, not like you're going out.

I usually wear shorts and a shirt. The shirt I wear isn't a fancy blouse or anything but there's no crazy logos or designs on it. It's a long day so you want to make sure you're still comfortable.

In short: Make sure your hair is in a natural color and conservative style. Make sure your makeup is kept natural. Tank tops will not be permitted for your housing ID photograph. If you have a tattoo that requires being covered by a tight shirt, you must have that garment ready to be presented. Keep your nails clean and trimmed and abide by the jewelry standards. Smile!
