Do you have questions? I've got answers!

It’s a Friday night, only one more day of work until my holiday weekend. So I’m lounging around watching one of my favorite live action Disney films, Newsies, and ready to take any questions you have about the DCP!

Fill up my blogspot with anything you’ve got!

  1. Hi! I like to read your blog because I've done the College Program and it is interesting to learn about other programs Disney offers. I'm actually about to start a Professional Internship but anyway I was wondering if you could talk about what the application process is like for the culinary program? I'm not in culinary I'm just interested to know!

  2. I'm glad you like it! and congratulations on your PI! that must be very exciting :) if you ever have anything you want to contribute or any tips along your journey, be sure to leave them here! I obviously have experience the culinary program but would love to help everyone!

The Culinary Program, a branch of the College Program, have both similar but very different applications. Both require the general application based with questions with answers such as strongly agree strongly disagree, blah blah blah. then in our web based interview we also have a place to talk about our experience. Since it is required to be enrolled in a culinary program, they want to know what you've learned in school or industry jobs so far. You can check off what products you have experience with ranging from cookies to souffles and cakes to pretzels. You can also check off equipment you've worked with like a dough sheeter, rack oven or spray machine.

our in person interview (which is most common since our recruiter travels to culinary schools) is strictly food related. We have to take a brief food safety and sanitation exam and then we head in to our interview. We talk about the similarities and difference of lie products, what flours are used for which product, temperatures and mixing methods, you name it. We also have to come up with a kid's dessert for pastry applicants or a kid's meal for culinary applicants.

It's definitely competitive, about 80% of our culinary applicants at our school get accepted and about 25% of our pastry applicants get accepted. There are no standard interview questions in the interview, nothing even Disney related. Just food. But if you know your food and your passionate about it and accompany it with a smile, you should be all set!

Great question! Thanks for coming to disneybakerdcp here on blogspot!

  3. Do you have any tips when answering these questions? I recently applied but did not get accepted. Luckily I applied early enough where I can try again in the fall. A major thing against me is I never had work experience and after looking for jobs, am afraid I still wont have any when my interview comes around. Do you have any suggestions on how I can get my passion to work for Disney show through during the interview? Thanks! :)

  4. Hi! First off, I'm sorry you did not get in but I'm so glad to see you haven't given up! The DCP is very competitive so I always tell people just because they say no now, doesn't mean it's a no forever! Definitely apply again and keep at it! Tiana thought she lost her restaurant, Cinderella didn't think she was going to the ball and Ariel thought she would never become a human, and look at them now :)

The key to these interviews is confidence. I recommend studying the week of your interview, I know it sounds weird. but study the basics you've learned in school like flours if your pastry, meats if your culinary, etc. know odds and ends like seasonal fruits and veggies, temperatures, anything you think would be useful. When you answer these questions, answer them with confidence. but don't be afraid if you don't know the answer. I distinctly remember chef asking me a question about yeast and it was one of those "huh?" questions. but instead of leaving it as 'i don't know' or making something up to sound smart I said, "I'm not sure of the answer at the moment but I have all of my notes from my breads lab saved so it is only a matter of referring back to them" it showed that yeah I might not know it this second, but I did the right thing and saved my notes.

and don't fret about the experience too much. when he grabbed my resume he saw that there was no industry experience for me outside of school and told me that this was a good first step in the door. Disney knows you're here to learn, it's ok!

as for your passion coming through, just be yourself. be confident in not only your answers, but yourself. Smiling is key, whether your interview is in person or on the phone, they can see it and feel it. Be chipper, be someone they can see working with their guests everyday. With the culinary program, the questions are mostly food and no Disney. You do get to create a kid's dessert or kid's meal so you can tie in some pixie dust with that. but as long as you are yourself, you'll be ok :)

All he asked was do i know how to cook certain things and how would i cook them.
